Quality cheap BMX bikes for children

June 28th, 2010

Those looking to buy a child’s BMX bike are often pleasantly surprised at how many quality BMX bikes are available for a young beginner – and just how affordable these bikes can be.

Children’s BMX bikes share many of the design characteristics of adult BMX bikes – the main difference being that they are smaller in scale.

The frame size is the main determinant of suitability for a younger rider, with the top tube of a frame (the uppermost horizontal tube connecting the front of bike to the saddle area) being a good few inches shorter than the adult version.

A child’s BMX bike is also likely to have smaller diameter wheels (16 inches rather than the standard 20 inches) as well as shorter crank arms (the small metal arms to which the pedals are connected) in order to make the bike more manageable.

Provided a child’s BMX bike is purchased from a reputable BMX shop, the buyer can rest assured that it will conform to the highest standards of safety, durability and reliability. Furthermore, buying from a specialist BMX shop will also ensure that full consideration will be given to finding the best model for a child’s height and weight, as well as guaranteeing expert advice on the most appropriate protective gear.

A good quality child’s entry level BMX bike need not break the bank, with models such as the Ruption Pulse 16, for example, falling well within most budgets. At specialist online BMX shop bmx.co.uk, we will even pledge to match any other online price.

BMX: a specialist bike from specialist retailers

June 11th, 2010

Anybody who regularly rides BMX bikes will know that they are capable of giving so much more to a rider than conventional bikes. Many would even argue that to categorise BMX models along with other bikes, fails to take into account the unique nature of BMX. For this reason, many experienced BMX riders will only buy BMX bikes and parts from a specialist BMX shop.

Buying BMX-associated products from a general bike store, for example, would simply not even be considered.

For a start, it will be extremely difficult for a general bike store to stock a full range of BMX products. As a consequence, the bike or BMX parts one is interested in purchasing, may well not be found among the brands covered under the shop’s stock buying policy. This is particularly true if a buyer has a requirement for a model designed to cater for a specific BMX discipline, such as racing or flatland.

In many cases, some BMX companies might not even consider a shop to be a worthy custodian of its bikes; the world-renowned Hoffman company being a prime example, who carefully vet each distribution request from retailers, to ensure they are sufficiently dedicated to BMX.

In addition, staff at a general bike shop will not necessarily have sufficient BMX knowledge to advise on the relative merits of the bewildering array of BMX parts and frames being continually added to the market.

At specialist online BMX shop, at bmx.co.uk we dedicate ourselves to BMX – and can offer top brands at the best prices.

The Excitement Of The Latest BMX Bikes

February 23rd, 2010

One of the attractions for those who enjoy BMX is the almost guaranteed introduction of new models each year from the major suppliers of BMX bikes. These new BMX bikes may well come in at a variety of ride levels, from advanced premium models with a carefully selected amalgam of high quality parts, down to the more intermediate or starter level rides with a careful balancing of value versus price.

What are the key aspects of these BMX bikes that enthusiastic BMX riders are looking out for?

First of all, potential buyers will be keen to see how many parts are made from chromoly rather than high-tensile steel. Chromoly is a steel alloy that benefits from the same degree of strength as steel yet requires less bulk in order to achieve this. As a consequence the more parts that are made from chromoly the lighter the bike will be without losing any of its strength.

Secondly, BMX enthusiasts will be keen to see how innovative the overall designs of the bikes are; whether the company has used a clever and effective combination of parts; or whether, perhaps, a single component embodies a smart, unique twist on a well-worn theme.

Finally, most BMX riders will fall head over heels with cutting edge paintwork or graphics on BMX bikes; riding a BMX can be as much about how the bike looks as how it performs.

At bmx.co.uk we stock many of the latest models from the top BMX suppliers, and all at prices that will add yet another reason to please the BMX buyer.

The Popularity Of BMX Brands

February 22nd, 2010

Many BMX riders like to stick to well-known brands when shopping. Choosing BMX products according to brand name is not extravagant, as it can sometimes be for certain retail categories such as clothing. On the contrary, opting for a BMX brand usually guarantees the highest quality, handling and performance, all of which are essential when participating in an extreme sport.

Whenever a particular brand is favoured by a rider, however, he or she must usually be prepared to be flexible in terms of what can and cannot be purchased new. Brands that once made complete bikes, for example, may well now find it more economical to sell BMX parts only. Other brands may even find that certain BMX disciplines are no longer worthwhile catering for at all.

The flip side of only being able to purchase branded BMX parts rather than a complete bike is of course that the buyer will be able to save money. BMX parts that are often sought after in this sense of making a difference to the overall bike include forks, frames and handlebars. However, branded BMX parts of all kinds, right down to the minutiae of spokes and spoke nipples, also tend to fly out of the shop window fairly quickly.

Where a brand no longer caters for a particular BMX discipline, or perhaps when a branded product has sold out, a reputable, specialist dealer will be able to advise on a satisfactory alternative.

At bmx.co.uk we believe that nobody is more passionate and knowledgeable about BMX, and we welcome queries about suitability and compatibility regarding BMX parts.

The BMX Frame And The Strength Versus Weight Argument

February 4th, 2010

One of the common debates among BMX riders is how far a BMX frame should sacrifice strength in favour of a lighter overall weight.

The basis for so many BMX companies striving to achieve as light a weight frame as possible is, they claim, an apparent desire among experienced riders for increased handling and manoeuvrability of their bike. From a common sense perspective this would appear logical. Surely, for example, a much higher take off from a ramp, or a much faster turn, will be more easily achieved if the bike one is riding has a lighter frame.

Yet, many riders have criticised this trend towards lighter and lighter weights as misguided. They point to the fact that BMX, whether it is freestyle or racing, often involves high impact drops and collisions with the bike consequently being placed under enormous physical pressures. Any compromise on strength, it is argued, increases the risk of both damage to the bike and injury to the rider.

It could be claimed that it is therefore down to the manufacturer to convince the BMX world that their particular BMX frame balances the right degree of relative weightlessness with sufficient strength. Certainly it is common knowledge, for example, that the right choice of material for a BMX frame can result in an impressive level of strength using far less mass.

At BMX we pride ourselves on being able to identify the best BMX frames on the market, and to match the most appropriate strength and weight combination in a BMX frame to each rider’s ability.
