Looking at Getting into BMX?

If you or someone in your family decides they want to get into BMX riding, or Bicycle Motor Cross, the choice of BMX bikes on offer today can seem overwhelming. Even if you just focus on racing BMX machines, the range of available models is huge.

Of course, much will be determined by your budget and the activity within the sport that you need the BMX bikes for - will you be concentrating on jumping, freestyle or racing BMX? Are you going to be riding on the streets or taking your racing BMX along some challenging dirt tracks? Because while BMX is a term bandied freely around, it actually covers several quite different types of machine.

Essentially, there are three kinds of BMX bikes - 'true' BMX, freestyle and dirt jumper. Although true BMX are still designed primarily as racing BMX machines, you don't have to race to enjoy the light weight and speed of these cycles. They usually have 20-inch wheels, knobbly tyres, crossbars, small saddles and upright handlebars.

Freestyle BMX bikes are best used for tricks on the flat, street riding and in skate parks or for shorter, local distances. With these bikes, super sturdy construction is a priority over the light weight of racing BMX machines. Dirt jumpers bridge the gap between BMX bikes and freestylers, offering some of the features of both. As the name implies, they're designed for taking flight! They usually come without front brakes, and they have the most heavily treaded tyres of all BMX bikes.

Our Online BMX Shop

Whether you want racing BMX models, cheap BMX machines or anything else, BMX.co.uk is your one-stop online BMX shop. Based in Romsey, southern England, we're a family run business with a real passion for BMX. We're keen to share our enthusiasm for the sport with our customers, and put that above the money-making ethos of some of our competitors who sell cheap BMX.

We offer a full range of racing BMX and other styles of bike from some of the world's leading brands, at the best prices we possibly can. Our online BMX shop also includes all the parts, accessories, protective gear and components you're ever likely to need to go with your bike, so we really do offer a complete service.

Affordable UK-wide delivery, outstanding customer service and expert buying advice come as standard when you use our BMX shop, as does a range of totally secure payment options. We'll even throw in a DVD for free with your order, giving you an overview of some basic BMX moves and tips on how to get the most out of your bike. Our delivery is quick, as well, and we can generally have your racing BMX or other model with you in just a few days at most, or often the next working day.

Our Cheap BMX bikes

We understand that times are tight for many people just now. Equally, if you or the person you are buying for is new to BMX, it makes sense to go for a cheap BMX to start off with. That's why we have a whole section on our online BMX shop dedicated to offering cheap BMX at under £200. However, we don't believe that buying on a budget should mean compromising on quality. All of our bikes, whether they are cheap BMX or not, share the same quality and features you'd expect to find from the most expensive models.

The Barracuda Grind is a great intermediate machine, available from our BMX shop and is highly affordable. It's suitable for children, teenagers and adults, and comes with 68 spoke wheels with alloy rims and is available in two colours, gloss black or white.

Other cheap BMX machines we offer include the Barracuda Dirt Squirt, a complete BMX bike which is especially suitable for smaller riders. Again, this is an intermediate bike, suitable for riders of all ages.

If you'd prefer to spend even less, the Universal Equinox Freestyle BMX is a great bike for kids to get used to the sport as beginners, and is packed with all the basic features you'll need, including gyro so you can perform 360° handlebar spins.

But, whatever you need from your machine, and however much you have to spend, make us your first port of call.
